Find out how we helped Popeto Baby Co Ltd to claim back £15,000 of qualifying expenditure via R&D Tax Credits. Here is Director Sarah Atherton to tell their story:
Baby Co. crafts infant and baby products to help busy parents look after their children safely on-the-go. They came up with the idea behind Popeto whilst struggling to locate suitable highchairs or safe places for our own babies. We wanted to create a range of stylish and affordable products for parents that were practical and, most importantly, safe for all situations.
Their first product, the Popeto Carrier & Seat, is an elegant dual-purpose carrier and chair harness. It has been designed to give parents a comfortable and convenient way to safely carry and support their infants.
How did RIFT R&D Tax Credits help you?
Quite simply, without RIFT R&D’s support we wouldn’t have been able to fund the creation of our product. They helped us fund the prototype. We spent a lot of time, sweat and money creating, designing and testing the product so it’s been a game changer for us to be reimbursed for our efforts. In total RIFT identified just under £15,000 worth of qualifying expenditure that we put into HMRC for review. We’ve ploughed our R&D Tax Credit straight back into the business and now the innovation process can start again!
How do you define innovation?
I’ll be honest, prior to RIFT we wouldn’t have assumed what we were doing was classed as innovation in the government’s eyes. But now we realise that innovation isn’t just high-tech software or revolutionary inventions, it’s a mindset and a way of working that makes the world a better place and life that little bit easier and safer.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now we’re focusing on adding the finishing touches to the Popeto Carrier & Seat. We believe this product will be the springboard for our business and pave the way for us to create even more innovative baby and toddler products.
